RI congressman joins delegation investigating child’s death
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Democratic co-chair of a U.S. House committee says he will be part of a delegation investigating the death of a migrant child in U.S. custody.
Felipe Gomez Alonzo died while in the custody of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Rhode Island Rep. David Cicilline (sihs-ihl-EE’-nee) announced Sunday that he will join a delegation in New Mexico to investigate the circumstances surrounding Alonzo’s death.
The all-Democratic delegation also includes Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas, Rep. Xochitl Torres Small of New Mexico, Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York, Rep. Grace Napolitano of California, Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragan of California, Rep. Salud Carbajal of California; and Rep. Veronica Escobar of Texas.
