Video: ‘Patient’ proposal: Havasu legislator Leo Biasiucci pretends to be patient as he proposes to his nurse girlfriend

Once he decided to pop the question, Leo Biasiucci wanted his marriage proposal to be unique and memorable.

Was it ever.

Biasiucci posed as a patient at Havasu Nursing Center. His girlfriend, Taylor Tamayo, is a nurse at the facility. The center’s staff was in on the elaborate plan and helped him pull it off.

Biasiucci has been swamped the past few weeks with legislative work. He is serving his first term as a member of the Arizona state legislature representing District 5, which includes Lake Havasu City. So it came as no surprise to Tamayo when her boyfriend said he had to spend the weekend in Phoenix. She reportedly wasn’t happy about his impending absence, but she accepted it.

That’s one reason why Biasiucci’s proposal caught Tamayo off guard. He was supposed to be out of town.

Instead, Biasiucci pretended to be a patient named “Willum Arryme” at the nursing center. In a patient room, he sprawled on the floor, as if he had fallen out of bed. A nurse who was in on the plan entered the room and saw Biasiucci on the floor. The stage was set.

The nurse called out for Tamayo’s help to get the pajama-clad man back in the bed. When Tamayo approached him, Biasiucci quickly stood. He then dropped to one knee, ring in hand, and popped the question.

Tamayo said yes.

The event occurred Jan. 19. Biasiucci said it took a couple of weeks to come up with his plan.

“I’d had the ring for a while and could have proposed anywhere — under the Eiffel Tower or somewhere romantic. But I wanted it to be a real surprise,” Biasiucci said Friday afternoon. “There were only a couple of people who knew. My parents didn’t even know. It was hard to keep it a secret. But I did. I had to make sure she had no idea it was coming.”

Both Biasiucci, 36, and Tamayo, 27, were raised in Havasu and attended local schools. They met through a mutual friend and have dated for about five years.

“When I met her, I knew something was different,” he said, adding that they are planning a Dec. 31, 2020 wedding.

Video of the proposal aired on “Inside Edition.”
