BEAUFORT, N.C. (AP) — Authorities in North Carolina have charged three men in connection with a kidnapping and assault case.

Carteret County deputies tell news outlets 28-year-old Cade Jones of Newport is charged with first-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun and is being held on a $1 million bond. The sheriff’s office also says 28-year-old Terrance Jones of Beaufort and 41-year-old Thomas Willis are also charged with first-degree kidnapping, and Terrance Jones is also charged with sexual battery.

It’s not known if any of the men have attorneys.

Deputies say the man managed to escape and call 911. According to deputies, the kidnapping occurred over money and drugs reportedly stolen from the three suspects. They say the man and woman were assaulted with a handgun, shotgun, and a knife during the ordeal.
