Doug Pickarts accepts job as Beaver Dam volleyball coach
Doug Pickarts said he has recently accepted the job as girls volleyball coach at Beaver Dam and will be a volunteer assistant for Golden Beavers girls basketball coach Tim Chase in the girls basketball program.
Pickarts said Tuesday he accepted a mathematics teaching job in Beaver Dam.
Pickarts replaces Alan Capps as volleyball coach. Pickarts was 581-245-45 as a volleyball coach and took DeForest to the WIAA Division 1 state tournament in 2014.
Beaver Dam won the WIAA Division 2 state title in girls basketball for a second consecutive year in March.
Pickarts stepped down from coaching girls volleyball and girls basketball at Barneveld earlier this spring.
Barneveld athletic director Randy Gabel said Pickarts stepped down for personal reasons. Chris Thousand was hired as Barneveld’s girls basketball coach in April.
“I love coaching kids and if something interesting comes up, I would certainly look into it,” Pickarts said after resigning in Barneveld, adding he seeking a mathematics teaching job closer to DeForest, where he previously worked as a teacher and coach.
His youngest daughter, Taryn Pickarts, was a senior at Barneveld this school year.
He compiled a 58-21 record in girls basketball in three seasons in Barneveld and said he was 453-232 overall, including 10 Badger Conference titles at DeForest.
In his first season, Barneveld was WIAA Division 5 state runner-up in 2016. The Golden Eagles won two regional titles and a Six Rivers East Conference title in the three years.
Pickarts was hired at Barneveld in 2015, becoming the girls basketball coach after Jim Myers switched from coaching the girls team to the boys team. Pickarts spent 28 years coaching athletics in DeForest and led the Norskies to four WIAA state appearances in basketball and a state appearance in volleyball.
