FELICITY HUFFMAN PLEADS GUILTY IN COLLEGE ADMISSIONS SCANDAL
BOSTON (AP) _ “Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty to participating in the college admissions cheating scheme.
The 56-year-old actress entered the plea Monday to a charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.
Huffman stood with her hands clasped in front of her and responded, “Yes, your honor,” when asked whether she understood the charges. Her brother watched from the front row. Her husband, actor William H. Macy, didn’t attend.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 13. Prosecutors said they would recommend four months in prison.
Huffman was arrested in March along with dozens of other prominent parents, athletic coaches and others implicated in the scandal. She was charged with paying $15,000 to have a proctor boost her older daughter’s SAT score.
She has apologized and says she will accept the consequences.

DORIS DAY LOVED HER JOB
CARMEL, Calif. (AP) _ Doris Day did not mind being known for such fluffy comedies as “Pillow Talk” and “The Pajama Game.” She said in a 2011 AP interview that working on films like that was so much fun, and she looked forward to coming to work. She said she was lucky in that great roles seem to come to her, rather than she had to look for them. Day died yesterday after a serious bout of pneumonia. She was 97.

‘EMPIRE’ WILL GO 1 MORE SEASON, SMOLLETT’S FUTURE IS UNCLEAR
NEW YORK (AP) — The Fox network says “Empire” will be back this fall for its final season.
But Fox executives in announcing the 2019-20 season say that Jussie Smollett’s future in the show is unclear.
Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier says there is an option to have Smollett in the show’s sixth year but there is no plan right now to include him.
Collier says the network wants to give “Empire” a big send-off and that’s the focus.
Smollett was accused of staging a racist, anti-gay attack against himself in Chicago. The charges were dropped.
WILL SMITH CALLS ‘ALADDIN’ REMAKE HIGHLIGHT OF HIS CAREER
AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Hollywood star Will Smith says that Disney’s live-action remake of “Aladdin” was “one of, if not the best experience” of his accomplished 30-year career.
Speaking to reporters in Amman, Jordan on Monday at the regional premiere, Smith — who plays Genie — said the musical movie “called upon every talent I cultivated” throughout decades as an actor, rapper and media personality.
Smith, who vaulted to fame with the 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” said the “Aladdin” role needed singing, comedy bits, action sequences and even Bollywood-style dance numbers — “everything short of boxing.”
Smith said he initially was intimidated to follow Robin Williams’ iconic performance in the original film.
The new adaption was mostly shot in the vast Jordanian desert, also the setting for 1962′s “Lawrence of Arabia.”
JESSICA HECHT HAVING ‘SPECIAL’ MOMENT THANKS TO NETFLIX SHOW
NEW YORK (AP) — Actress Jessica Hecht, best known for her supporting roles in “Friends” and “Breaking Bad,” was riding the subway in New York and someone was staring at her.
So she asked, ”‘What am I doing that’s making you upset?’” His reply: “Excuse me, you’re my hero on that show.”
Hecht says that’s been the common response — from men and women, old and young, black and white — to her performance as the loving, emotional mother of a gay son with cerebral palsy on Netflix’s “Special.” Hecht, 53, plays Karen Hayes, overbearing mother to a nearly 30-year-old disabled son trying to live his best life and find his voice. The son is played by series creator and executive producer Ryan O’Connell.
