The Latest: Interstate 10 reopens after pedestrian fatality

PHOENIX (AP) — The Latest on an Arizona freeway closure (all times local):

10 a.m.

Westbound Interstate 10 in west Phoenix has reopened after being closed during the Wednesday morning commute because of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

The state Department of Public Safety said a person running across the freeway was struck by a vehicle and that the vehicle’s driver remained at the scene.

The pedestrian’s identity wasn’t released immediately and no additional information is available about circumstances of the crash.

Officials said westbound Interstate 10 was closed between 91st and 99th avenues in west Phoenix, and the state Department of Public Safety said the closure was expected to last several hours.

Traffic was being diverted onto the frontage road before re-entering the freeway at 99th Avenue and the Loop 101 freeway.

No additional information about the crash was released immediately.
