James ’Moocher” Hess

James W. “Moocher” Hess, 74, of Momence, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2019) at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1944, in Momence, the son of Wallace G. and Margaret Laking Hess. James married Beverly L. Carpenter on Aug. 21, 1965, in Momence. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Renee Hess, of Momence, Timothy and Sharie Hess, of Momence, and Rick and Rosalind Hess, of Bourbonnais; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Latisha Hess, of Arkansas City, Kan., Tom and Judy Hess, of Kankakee, Roger and Gayle Hess, of Momence, David and Janice Hess, of Bourbonnais, and Mike and Cheryl Hess, of Momence; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Bill Spoon, of Momence, Barb Nabors, of Momence, and Vicki and Dan Thorne, of Bourbonnais; and four grandchildren, Gina Lewis, Josh Hess, Nathan Hess and Trevor Hess.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Gene Hess; one sister, Ruth Boughton; and one grandson, Christopher Hess.

He was a retired laborer at the Bunge Factory in Bourbonnais. James had attended First United Methodist Church in Momence. He enjoyed golfing and had attended 53 years of the Indy 500 races.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. There will be no funeral services.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Inurnment will be in Shrontz Cemetery in Momence, at later date.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
