JCC boys pull away from HTRS
A big second quarter allowed Johnson County Central to pull away from Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Thursday night.
The Thunderbirds defeated the Titans 52-40 in Tecumseh.
They led 8-7 after the first quarter, but then outscored HTRS 27-6 in the second quarter to take a 35-13 lead at half time.
The Thunderbirds extended that lead to 48-20 in the third quarter. HTRS did out score JCC in the fourth quarter 20-4, but it was too late. The Thunderbirds were able to hold on for the 52-40 win.
Uriel Cabrales led the way for JCC with 12 points while Johan Arellano was also in double figures with 10 points.
Calvin Antholz had eight points while Levi Dorsey, Kole Kleespies and Eli Waring had six each, Johnny Kongmanyvong had three and Andruw Stafford had one.
Hunter Hain led HTRS with 11 points while Carter Drake had nine and Caleb Tackett, Conner Bredemeier and Isaiah Lockard had six each. Donovan Kosteka had two for the Titans.
It was the third straight win for Johnson County Central. They defeated Pawnee City last Saturday and Weeping Water on Tuesday before their win over HTRS on Thursday.
The Thunderbirds are now 7-8 on the season and will host Malcolm on Tuesday before traveling to Conestoga on Thursday.
HTRS falls to 4-10 on the season and will host Centennial on Saturday before traveling to Conestoga on Tuesday.
