UN: More than half Yemen’s people need aid
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Yemen says over half the country’s 14.7 million people need humanitarian aid this year.
Johannes Van Der Klaauw said Thursday that 10.5 million Yemenis aren’t getting enough food, 13 million have no access to clean water or adequate sanitation, and 8.6 million have no health assistance, according to U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Van Der Klaauw said only 18 percent of the $591.6 million the U.N. needs to help Yemenis has been contributed so far. He urged international donors to contribute generously.
