Couple sentenced in stabbing death of California soldier
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Two married former Army National Guard soldiers have each been sentenced to three years in prison for the stabbing death of a fellow soldier on New Year’s Day 2014.
The Fresno Bee reports Jessica Wills and her wife Jacqueline Wills showed no emotion during their sentencing Tuesday.
They each pleaded no contest in January to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Sgt. Brian Santos. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed murder charges.
Defense lawyers contended the couple stabbed a drunken Santos in self-defense. They said Santos had been abusive to his girlfriend and Jessica and Jacqueline Wills came to her defense.
