OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Ogden police say four officers fatally shot a knife-wielding man approaching them after ignoring commands to drop the weapon.

Police Lt. Michael Boone said the encounter occurred Thursday night after the officers responded to a call about an apparently disoriented knife-wielding man approaching people in the driveway of a home where a yard party was underway.

Boone said the officers fired when they could no longer retreat.

The man’s identity wasn’t released.

The Weber County Critical Incident Response Team will investigate the incident.

The four officers were placed on standard administrative leave pending the investigation.
