Project to extend Coalfields Expressway underway
BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia officials say a long-awaited project to extend the Coalfields Expressway is underway.
News outlets report Gov. Jim Justice and others officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Raleigh County on Thursday for the project, which has been years in the making.
The project will extend the Coalfields Expressway 8.9 miles from Slab Fork to Mullens. Plans call for the entirety of the project to pass by Pineville, Welch and Bradshaw before entering Virginia.
Justice said the new portion of roadway should be complete by October.
