Bar Star: Kendra Gipson at Victor
Length of time working at current place?
I’ve been at Victor for three months but interviewed for the job back in November.
Bamboo was given to me by an artist friend who said I was strong like bamboo grass.
Lamest pickup line you’ve heard at the bar?
“Do you know who I am?”
Becoming friends with customers: yes or no?
Outside of the bar is rare. Unless I’m invited to something cool.
Most common customer complaint?
Any customer complaint is a misunderstanding, which I try to resolve or just stay away from if it has nothing to do with me personally.
Song you’ve gotten sick of at work?
Victor’s selection has been upbeat and cool thus far. But ask me that six months from now.
What’s the sloppiest, drunkest thing you’ve ever seen on the job?
A wild sex scene in the men’s restroom and a brutal bar fight in the parking lot over a BBQ plate.
What’s the most outrageous request you’ve ever gotten?
A customer once offered me $500 in cash to leave work and continue the night on the town with him. He said he was impressed with my service and wanted to hang out. I said no.
Where do you like to go have a drink when you’re not at work?
Tiny Boxwoods, Axelrad, Le Colonial, Davenport and any place with a nice, cold beer.
What’s your specialty drink, and how do you make it?
The Slingshot: Hendrick’s Gin, passion fruit, St. Germain, equal parts lemon and simple syrup, muddled cucumber, shaken hard and served in a flute topped with Moët.
What’s something your customers may not know about you?
I like being mysterious for the most part.
