Former Gamecock Allisha Gray named WNBA Rookie of the Year
Who else would they give it to?
Former South Carolina standout Allisha Gray was named Rookie of the Year by the WNBA on Tuesday after a season in which she helped Dallas reach the postseason for the first time since the franchise relocated from Tulsa. Gray, who won two of the three Rookie of the Month Awards during the season, averaged 13 points and 3.9 rebounds while starting all 34 games.
Gray was named Associated Press Rookie of the Year two weeks ago. Drafted fourth (with USC teammates Alaina Coates and Kaela Davis going second and 10th, respectively), Gray was an integral part of the Gamecocks’ run to the national championship. A transfer from North Carolina who began her college career helping UNC eliminate USC from the NCAA tournament, then being eliminated by USC in the NCAA tournament, then helping USC win the tournament, Gray added a scoring punch to the team.
Gray was second on the team with 13.2 points and averaged 5.0 rebounds. She chipped in 93 assists, 48 steals and 24 blocked shots in her one season at USC.
