Hanover V-Ball wraps up another unbeaten HCAC run
Hanover’s volleyball team wrapped up an unbeaten run through the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a pair of wins in northwestern Ohio over the weekend. The Panthers rallied to beat Bluffton 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-22) to clinch a share of the HCAC regular-season crown on Saturday and then knocked off Defiance 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22, 15-4) in a hard-fought match on Sunday to finish 9-0 in league play for the second-straight year to win the title outright. Margo Main had 13 kills against Bluffton while Emily Ertel had 11 kills, Kelsey Brandvik and Kristin Goben had 10 each, Haley Alexander had 24 assists, Abby Crump at 23 assists, and Monique Huynh had 24 digs and three service aces. Goben had 14 kills, 3.5 blocks and hit at .364 to lead Hanover against Defiance while Denis had 10 kills, 17 digs and 7.5 blocks. Main had 12 kills, Crump had 28 assists, and Ally Williams had 40 digs. Hanover closes the regular season with a 24-7 record and carries a school-record 14-match win streak into this week’s HCAC Tournament. As the No. 1 seed, the Panthers receive a first-round bye and will host either Defiance or Manchester in the semifinals on Saturday with the championship set for Sunday. Game times have not yet been announced.
