CHELMSFORD -- Two student groups at Chelmsford High School have advanced to the semifinal round of the 2019 International Championship of High School A Cappella after placing first and third at the recent quarterfinals.

The Thursdays won that event, and The Crescendos placed third. Both will compete Sunday, March 10, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

The CHS ensembles also took home multiple individual awards, including:

Best Arrangement, Katie Flynn and Madison Good of The Crescendos.

Best Vocal Percussion, Sophie Bellone of The Crescendos, Josh Timmins of The Thursdays.

Best Choreography (Emma DeWitt, Allison Dorsey and Andrea Loew of The Thursdays.

Last year, The Thursdays won “Sing That Thing,” WGBH’s televised competition for New England singing groups. The Thursdays were also selected to represent North America at the International Championship of High School A Cappella Festival each of the last two years.

Both bands will also perform at ACA-POCALYPSE, March 22-23 at the Carl J. Rondina Performing Arts Center at CHS.
