Man arrested following high-speed chase
KENOVA — A Georgia man was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 64 that ended in the woods next to the interstate, according to a news release from the Kenova Police Department.
Jahrius Isaiah Justus Whitehead, 26, of Macon, Georgia, was jailed at 12:15 a.m. Thursday. Authorities in Wayne County charged him with fleeing from officers, conspiracy, possession with intent to deliver and transporting controlled substance into the state with intent.
Kenova Police pulled over Whitehead’s vehicle for alleged speeding near the Kenova exit on I-64. The vehicle allegedly fled from the scene while the officer was writing the speeding citation. Whitehead then lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into the median.
Whitehead then ran across the eastbound lanes of traffic and into the woods next to the road, police said. He was located several hundred yards into the woods and taken into custody.
Kenova and Ceredo EMS and rescue teams were called to the scene to assist officers in bringing Whitehead back up to the road due to steep terrain and injuries sustained by Whitehead.
Officers located an estimated $18,000 of suspected cocaine and $3,000 worth of marijuana, along with $500 cash.
Whitehead was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment of his injuries before being transported to Western Regional Jail.
