Billerica Grad Gupta New Assistant GM for Pistons
Sun Staff report
Sachin Gupta, a 2000 graduate of Billerica Memorial High School, has been named assistant general manager of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons.
The Pistons announced the move Tuesday.
Gupta was a special adviser to Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey last season. He previously worked for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Ed Stefanski, a special adviser to Pistons owner Tom Gores, says Sachin has a great handle on analytics and will be a “tremendous resource” for the basketball operations team.
The MIT graduate specializes in the salary cap and related NBA financial issues. He got his MBA at Stanford. Gupta ran for the track team at Billerica High, specializing in the two-mile.
The Pistons have been overhauling their front office after the departure of Stan Van Gundy , who was their coach and team president for four seasons. Van Gundy is a former UMass Lowell coach.
