Fire 10, Galaxy 7
DUSSELDORF, Germany (AP) _ Manfred Burgsmueller kicked a 19-yard field goal with 12 seconds left Saturday to give the Rhein Fire a 10-7 victory over the Frankfurt Galaxy in the WLAF.
The field goal capped a four-minute drive, which saw quarterback T.J. Rubley and fullback Derrick Clark carry the ball on eight of the 11 plays. The Fire were also aided by three Galaxy penalties on the drive.
The Fire (3-2) set a home attendance record with a crowd of 32,140 against the Galaxy (2-3), who play just 130 miles away.
The Galaxy took a 7-0 lead on Vernon Turner’s 6-yard run just before the end of the first half. The Rhein Fire tied it against the league’s top defense when Aubrey Beavers picked off a pass by Chad May and returned it 42 yards to the Galaxy 3. Clark, who played with the Denver Broncos, scored over right tackle 2:59 into the third quarter.
