New baby zebra born at Utah’s Hogle Zoo is ‘doing great’ and practicing kicks
SALT LAKE CITY — A new baby zebra has joined the herd at Utah’s Hogle Zoo.
A yet-to-be-named female zebra was born on June 2 to first-time mama Ziva, according to a press release from the Hogle Zoo. The newborn weighs 74 pounds and is “doing great, nursing regularly, working on her kicks.”
She is the second Hartmann’s mountain zebra born at the zoo and brings the zoo’s zebra population up to five. The zebra Poppy was born in April 2017.
“Ziggy, father to both babies, is doing well and remains mostly unconcerned with what’s happening,” the zoo said in the release.
Starting Thursday, June 6, the baby and mother zebra will be out daily in their enclosure from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.
Hogle Zoo, located at 2600 Sunnyside Ave. in Salt Lake City, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Admission is $18.95 for adults, $16.95 for seniors and $14.95 for ages 3-12.
