Monroe police investigating motor vehicle break-ins

February 13, 2019

MONROE — Police are investigating reports of some car break-ins in town, including one in which the motor vehicle in question was actually stolen — then recovered that same day.

According to Monroe police, at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, officers received a report that a 2017 black Nissan Rogue had been stolen from an Osborn Lane residence, and that the residence’s mailbox had been hit. The caller reported that the incidents likely happened some time overnight.

Police said, around 3:15 p.m., the vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts at 447 Monroe Turnpike.

The same day, at 8:43 a.m., police said they received a report that another vehicle had been broken into at a Spring Hill Road residence and a checkbook had been stolen. Security camera footage showed that the incident happened around 4 a.m.

Monroe Police Lt. Stephen Corrone said the incidents are thought to be related, and that car break-ins of this nature are an “ongoing issue” across the state.
