ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida legislator has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for spending campaign money on personal expenses.

U.S. District Judge Carlos Mendoza told former state Rep. Dwayne Taylor on Friday that he had dishonored Florida and fueled skeptics who doubt the honesty of politicians. He was convicted in August on nine counts of wire fraud.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that the 50-year-old Daytona Beach Democrat withdrew the money from ATMs and used it to pay for everything from meals at McDonald’s to $13,000 for his wedding at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel. Prosecutors say he $62,000, which he must repay in $300 monthly installments.

The former firefighter served in the Florida Legislature from 2008 to 2016. He ran for Congress in 2016 but lost in the primary.
