TGR opens in-town storefront
Starting Friday, Jackson residents and visitors looking to buy Teton Gravity Research merchandise won’t have to travel very far at all.
The action sports production company, headquartered in Wilson, is opening a storefront on Broadway right off Town Square.
The company has been looking for a storefront location for a few years. It finally found a short-term home in Barker-Ewing’s summer reservation office at 45 W. Broadway.
“We’ve just been seeing enough activity and interest around the brand,” TGR co-founder Steve Jones said of the expansion.
The Wilson location is home to the company’s main production operations, website team and offices, but there is also a retail shop on the main floor. Foot traffic to the space has increased, as has interest in merchandise while on film tours and at TetonGravity.com.
Like the Wilson space, the new store will carry TGR films, hats, shirts, sweaters and other apparel. Jones also hopes to host events with athletes, such as poster signings, when they are in town filming this winter.
“We want people to take that TGR feeling and have it be a place they can go into and be inspired by,” Jones said.
At Friday’s opening the first 100 people to visit will receive a free copy of “Tight Loose,” TGR’s 2016 ski and snowboard film. The store will open at 10 a.m.
“I think that there is so much traffic in that area,” Jones said. “We did talk about bringing in people who aren’t familiar with the brand and bringing them in to the extended family.”
Brett Hills, chief financial officer, agreed with that sentiment.
“It’s just another way for us to expand the brand,” he said. “It’s a cool way for people to touch TGR when they’re in Jackson. They’re here for winter and they can take home a little bit of it.”
Teton Gravity Research has the space for six months. It hopes to find a permanent spot in town or in Teton Village.
“That’s the ultimate goal,” Jones said.
