Myrtle Creek’s Summer Festival July 26-29

June 7, 2018 GMT

The Myrtle Creek Summer Festival celebrates 32 years this summer.

The multi-day festival runs every summer — this year Thursday, July 26 to Sunday, July 29 — and includes a variety of entertainment, vendors and fun for the whole family. It is the definition of a classic community celebration.

The festival is packed with events including live stage entertainment, vendor booths from food, arts and crafts to kid games, an arm wrestling tournament, doughnut eating contest, softball, disc golf, and basketball tournaments, 4x4 rock crawl competition, 5K run/walk, cake walk, Fear Factor event, fireworks show, lumberjack show, and much more.

“My favorite part of the festival is that it is a community celebration. The Lions and their partners put this on to thank our community for their support. It brings such an amazing and diverse group together. With the various activities, there is something for everyone,” said Paulette Jones, president of the Myrtle Creek/Tri City Area Chamber of Commerce.

On Thursday, July 26 the festival kicks off at 3 p.m. with free kids sidewalk chalk art. Booths open at 4 p.m., bingo takes place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the picnic shelter, and the opening ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. Live music will be taking place on stage in the evening until 10 p.m.

On Friday booths open at 11 a.m. Bingo will be taking place in the picnic shelter from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m., and then a doughnut contest will be at 2 p.m. The fun cake walk will be at 3 p.m. on the stage, and the popular Fear Factor event will go from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Music will again close the evening.

Saturday starts with the Main Street Parade at 10 a.m. Ongoing arm wrestling tournaments will go from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., signups are in the picnic shelter from 8 to 10 a.m. Booths will open after the parade and a free children’s scavenger hunt will kick off at 11:30 a.m.

Visitors can meet at the Millsite Park fountain if they would like to go on a historic town walking tour at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Fear Factor finals will start at 6 p.m., and the festival’s finale of music and fireworks will close the night.

One of the festival’s most anticipated events is the Big John Miller Memorial West Coast Lumberjack Show which will take place at Millsite Park in the lower area at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday will also include the classic car show, a women’s softball tournament, hot dogs on the bridge, 4x4 rock crawl, and more.

Sunday will hold offsite events including a disc golf tournament at the annex and women’s softball tournament at the park softball fields.

The Taste of Myrtle Creek 5K Run and Walk will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Registration is $20 before July 20, and $25 after. Registration forms are at SOCO Coffee Company, 11 N Main St., Myrtle Creek.
