Register now for Juneau vegetable contest

JUNEAU -- The Juneau Community Garden with Blue Zones Project Dodge County are hosting a vegetable growing contest.

Residents with plots in the Juneau Community Garden voted to include carrots and tomatoes in the contest. All vegetables must be grown in Juneau soil. There will be three categories included.

Best carrots in Juneau (three for display, washed or brushed with stems on)Most unusual carrot or tomato in Juneau (one for display)Best tomatoes in Juneau (three ripe for display with stems removed)

There will be three sub categories for tomatoes


Best salad or cherry tomatoesBest red tomatoesBest tomatoes, any other color

The contest will be Sept. 16, at the Juneau Community Garden, 383 N. Hyland St. A certified 4-H Junior Fair judge will choose the winners. The contest will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until all are judged.

Any grower, young or old, may apply as long as the vegetables are grown in city or rural Juneau soil. Ribbon awards and merchant prizes will be given.

All entries must be registered by Sept. 14. Registration blanks can be picked up and dropped off at the Juneau Public Library, 250 N. Fairfield St. For information, call 386-4465.
