Marie Bostwick: Best-selling author signs new book, ‘Hope on the Inside’
Marie Bostwick has written a new novel called “Hope on the Inside.” The New York Times best-selling author will sign copies at The Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington Depot on Saturday, March 30.
This compelling book is about a mother of four, Hope Carpenter, who finds new purpose in a new phase of her life — in a place she never expected to be. Heartfelt and thought-provoking, it’s filled with unexpected twists and characters you’ll think about long after reading the final page.
The story shares what happens when Hope’s husband, a hardworking engineer, is suddenly forced to retire and her own job is lost to budget cuts — putting a strain on their savings and marriage. Seeking a paycheck and insurance, Hope winds up in a Starbucks where an unexpected conversation leads her to a new job — teaching crafts to inmates at a prison for women.
At first she’s not sure how to relate to them. But she’s determined to make a difference, even though certain people think she has no business being there. As Hope gets to know the women and the concern they have for their children and families, she realizes they are not so different.
She and her students begin to bond while embarking on an ambitious quilting project. However, they face a variety of obstacles and must learn to believe in themselves, and have a certain amount of trust in the future, in order to move forward.
The Hickory Stick Bookshop event is a homecoming of sorts, as Bostwick lived in Connecticut for many years before returning to her home state of Oregon, where she resides with her husband. Bostwick is also known for her “Cobbled Court Quilts” series, among other books.
When not writing, she enjoys quilting, reading, cooking, spending time with family and playing with her grandchildren. Bostwick recently-launched a lifestyle blog called FierceBeyond50. She describes it as “a community for women to seize and celebrate their maturity, leading lives of significance, empowerment, and joy.”
Fans may pre-order “Hope on the Inside” (Kensington, $15.95) through the bookshop to receive an autographed copy and a free party favor from Bostwick.
