Male Osprey Joins Female at Boulder County Nest
Cameras at the city of Boulder’s nest near Valmont Reservoir and the nest near the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont run a live feed 24/7 so bird watchers can keep an eye on the ospreys throughout the entire process. The city’s feed is available at bouldercolorado.gov/osmp/osprey-cam and the county’s is available at bouldercounty.org/open-space/management/osprey-camera .
Better late than never.
The male osprey has arrived at the camera-equipped nest site at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, joining the female who arrived March 22.
Spotters said the male arrived at the site Wednesday. While the arrival was about a week later than the female and about a week behind his arrival time in 2018, the male osprey has shown up anywhere from March 19 to March 30 in the years since the nest was created.
The female is now expected to lay eggs in the coming weeks.
The female did have some unexpected company earlier this week in the form of an owl knocking her off the perch during the night, but she was not injured.
