Federal Investigators At Scene Of Plane Crash That Killed Two Men
LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) _ A restored World War II P-51 Mustang fighter plane crashed near Lake Michigan and killed two men, including a former professional football player, state police said.
″The plane as far as I know looked like wind caught (it) and blew it into the trees. (Witnesses) said it was real low,″ said Sgt. Jack Thomas. He said the pilot did not report trouble before Friday’s crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating, Trooper Gerald Patrick said Saturday. He said the men had been vacationing in the area.
The victims were identified as Wayne Meylan, 41, of Elkhorn, Neb., the pilot, and John Colton, 33, of Omaha, said Bob LaMott, vice president of Meylan Enterprises.
Meylan, a guard for the University of Nebraska in the 1960s, later played for the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League, LaMott said.
