Lake Havasu City Police say a New Jersey man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly struck a woman in the face.

Police say Steven Wendt, 31, of Glassboro, New Jersey, was at a hotel bar with a woman Saturday night. He wanted to return to their hotel room, but she wanted to stay at the bar. A short time later, he allegedly grabbed her to go up to their room, and they later got into an argument. They got into their rental car to return to the airport in Las Vegas, and they continued to argue. According to the police report, the woman began to record Wendt as he drove fast on the highway and they continued to argue. She threatened to call police if he didn’t stop to let her out. That’s when Wendt slammed on the brakes, causing her to hit her head on the vehicle’s dashboard, police say. He then grabbed her cell phone and threw it into the desert. The couple began looking for the cell phone, but as the woman got near Wendt, he grabbed her and threw her to the ground, punching her in the face, police said. According to the police report, Wendt had several small scratches on the right side of his neck and a laceration on his hand from punching the woman. When police arrived at the scene, they found several pills in his front left pocket. He was arrested and booked into Lake Havasu City Jail on misdemeanor charges of assault, DUI and disorderly conduct.
