Snowstorm expected to hit East Idaho on Thursday

A winter snowstorm will move into East Idaho on Thursday, dropping up to 2 to 4 inches of snow in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, mountainous areas of Central and East Idaho can expect moderate snow from Thursday morning to Friday night. However, most of the populated areas in the region will see either light snow or no precipitation at all.

The National Weather Service said Island Park is expected to get the most snow in East Idaho, with 3 to 4 inches forecast for the next couple days. Driggs is expected to get 2 to 3 inches, and Soda Springs is expected to get 1 to 2 inches.

Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Dubois, Montpelier and Malad are forecast to receive less than 1 inch of snow.

In Central Idaho, areas near Stanley are expected to get 4 to 6 inches of the white stuff.

In Pocatello, wind gusts as high as 25 mph are forecast for Thursday night. Then on Friday morning, there is a slight chance of rain and snow before 11 a.m., followed by a chance of rain.
