John Wall, Marcin Gortat meet to ‘clear air’: Report

Washington Wizards guard John Wall and Marcin Gortat met privately last week to discuss the drama surrounding them, according to an ESPN report.

After Washington’s 122-119 over Toronto on Feb. 1, Gortat tweeted that it was “a great ‘team’ win” which many took as a shot at Wall, who is out with a knee injury.

Wall fired back, saying on SportsCenter that, “It was more just shock to hear it from him, understanding he gets the most assists from me and the most spoon-fed baskets ever.”

ESPN reported Wall and Gortat both requested the meeting, but it only led to an “airing of grievances.” The reports adds that the two have “more work” to do in order to repair the relationship.

Gortat, who was involved in trade rumors before the league’s deadline, defended his tweet, saying his comment wasn’t a shot at Wall.

Gortat and Wall have not met with local reporters since Wall appeared on SportsCenter, turning down interview requests.

Last week, Wizards coach Scott Brooks called the incident between Wall and Gortat a “misunderstanding.”

“You go through any team, any season, when I was a player you’re going to have disagreements with players and it’s not going to be our last one,” Brooks said. “It might be one tonight with Brad and I. That’s just part of being a coach, part of being a teammate, you’re going to have those. These guys are brotherhoods and they’re around each other so much.

“So when players have a misunderstanding you got to talk it out and move on and I have no problem with what our guys are about,” he added.
