Competing at the Reggie Lewis facility in Roxbury, the Innovation Academy senior heaved the 12-pound shot 64 feet, five inches.

That broke the previous indoor track state record of 63-11. It was a personal best by two feet, 10 inches for the standout athlete from Billerica.

To show his development, consider that Felty broke Innovation’s indoor school record with a throw of 57-4.75 last December. A year later, he tossed nearly seven feet further. Felty won an All-State Meet outdoor championship last June with a toss of 61-7.
