Man gets 14 years for role in death of teen in Portland park
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for his role in the 2016 killing of a 17-year-old boy while trying to rob him of his belt in a Portland Park.
Miguel Thompson was sentenced Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court after pleading guilty in November to second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
Thompson was part of a group of three teens arrested in the Holladay Park killing of Shawn Scott Jr. as they tried to force him at gunpoint to hand over his brown-checkered Louis Vuitton belt.
Scott died after being shot in the head by 20-year-old Kole Jones. Jones received a 19-year sentence in November after pleading guilty to manslaughter and attempted robbery.
Eighteen-year-old Malique Kinnerly-Hicks pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and second-degree manslaughter. He’s serving more than seven years for the robbery and will be sentenced for manslaughter later this month.
