Fundraisers to help P.A.W. pay for ailing dogs
In a continued effort to raise funds for P.A.W. animal shelter, an event is being planned for Sunday night. Starting at 1 p.m. and running until 7 p.m., there will be several live bands, along with a 50/50 raffle and food and drinks for sale. This will take place at the Elks Club at 719 Ave. H, Fort Madison.
According to P.A.W. Director Sandy Brown, the funds raised have already been earmarked.
“We have vet bills that need to be paid,” Brown said. “Some of these dogs and cats have been through a lot and it is taken a long way to get them back where they need to be.”
Martin Sheridan is heading up the fund raiser. He says there will be several bands. They will include Chaz and the Channel Cats, The Hillside Stragglers, No Strings Attached, Whiskey Friends and Jesse James Mazzacolli.
There will also be a silent auction. P.A.W. Director Sandy Brown said there will be a silent auction.
“We have had several things donated for the auction ranging from Cards tickets from Shottenkirk’s to gift baskets,” Brown said. “We are still looking for items to be auctioned off if any one or any organization is interested. We are hoping to be able to raise money to help support the good work they do at the shelter.”
There is no cover charge to get into the event but Sheridan hopes people attending are willing to make free will donations.
Another fund raiser will be the Music Trivia Night, being held at the following Friday. According to Brown, the event is more of a “Name That Tune” rather than a music trivia game. There will be a team of eight per table at a cost of $15 per person.
“The last time it was $10 per person but we had to raise the price because of all the animals’ medical bills,” Brown said. “It will be held at the Eagles Club. Registration is at 6 p.m. and the game is at 7 p.m.”
“You don’t need to know anything about music,” Brown said. “It’s not about winning. It’s about supporting a great cause.”
