Colorado prison guard arrested in fatal shooting
AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Police in suburban Denver say a guard at a state prison has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Aurora Police said in a statement that officers questioned 26-year-old Scott Matthews Jr. after a fatal shooting Thursday night at an apartment complex and arrested him Friday.
It is not clear if Matthews has an attorney. He remained in custody Friday.
Police have not released information about the man who died.
A Department of Corrections spokeswoman says Matthews has been suspended without pay. He has worked for the department since 2015 and was working at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility.
Matthews is the second facility employee to be arrested this week. In an unrelated case, Denver Police arrested Joshua Hensley on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted pimping and patronizing a prostitute.
