Free record expungement workshop offered at ACTC

November 23, 2018

ASHLAND — A free criminal record expungement workshop will be offered on Friday, Nov. 30 at Ashland Community and Technical College’s main campus. Information will be provided regarding eligibility and the process for expungement of criminal records. Two time slots are available. Morning class begins at 9 a.m. and an afternoon class starts 1 p.m.

This workshop is sponsored by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in partnership with ACTC’s criminal justice program and the FIVCO Kentucky Reentry Council.

“In Kentucky, there are more than 700 collateral consequences to a felony conviction,” said Beverly Sharp, ACTC criminal justice program coordinator and re-entry council member. “These consequences impact the ability to obtain employment, housing, public benefits and more. If your criminal record is eligible for expungement, it could be a life-changing experience.”

If eligible for expungement, participants may also receive one-on-one advisement from legal professionals on how the expungement process works. Attendees will not have their records expunged at this event, but will be given information about what to do next, if they choose to proceed with the process.

The expungement process itself is not free, but there may - depending on funding - be a limited number of scholarships/fee waivers available for some eligible workshop attendees. More information will be provided at the event.

To participate in the workshop, arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled sessions to complete the necessary forms.
