Luzerne County Citizens Group Formed
Brian Shiner, a regular critic of Luzerne County government and a constant presence at county meetings, has formed a citizens group in hopes of urging more county residents to take part in government.
At county Manager David Pedri’s annual forum Wednesday evening, Shiner announced the formation of Residents of Luzerne County United.
After seven years of a home rule form of government, county council “is now treating home rule as their version of Candy Land,” Shiner said.
“Something must be done,” he said, adding that the county “needs this organization.”
Shiner, of Kingston, said he is looking for people to help run the newly formed nonprofit group, which will have an active website and Facebook page.
According to its website, the group will focus on “the people of Luzerne County joining together to participate in their government.”
