2 dozen treated after pepper spray released at DMV office
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say about two dozen people were treated for eye irritation after pepper spray was accidentally released in a California Department of Motor Vehicles office in Los Angeles.
Sheriff’s Lt. Leo Bauer tells City News Service that a woman was waiting in line at the Newhall office at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday when she accidentally discharged the pepper spray while looking for something in her purse.
About 50 people in the building were affected. Some left the building. The Fire Department says firefighters treated 23 people at the scene for eye irritation, while one person was taken to a hospital.
