Little League: Abington American Falls In Section 5

Jaden Shedlock pitched three innings for the win, hit a triple and tallied three RBIs as Mountain Top defeated Abington American, 5-4, on Friday to capture the Section 5 8-9-10 baseball championship.

Mountain Top advances to the state tournament, which starts Tuesday at Indiana Little League. The team will open the tournament against the Section 2 champion.

Zach Stavish and Chase Galella each went 2 for 3 in Friday’s win. Jack Rodgers added a hit and an RBI.

Evan Gonzalez led Abington American at the plate in a 2 for 4 night that included two runs scored.

State 8-10 softball

Mary Hanasovan earned the win on the mound as St. Mary’s defeated Delaware Valley, 6-4, in an elimination game at Christy Mathewson Little League.

Gina Geci, Bailey Thoywart, Ava Villella and Avery Eckets each had one hit for the winners.

Darby Myers had two hits for Delaware Valley.

St. Mary’s will play Back Mountain today at noon in the elimination bracket final.

Section 5

Junior baseball

Pittston Area defeated Back Mountain, 15-4, in the elimination bracket final.

Pittston will play Abington today at 11 a.m. at Hilldale Field in Plains in the championship final.

Pittston Area 12, Carbondale 8

At Plains on Thursday, Thomas Gray and Michael Datto each had two hits for Carbondale in a loss to Pittston Area in an elimination game.
