Bletscher’s 5 RBI’s lifts Lady O to RCC title
Five RBI’s from Mikayla Bletscher propelled the Beatrice softball team to a 12-4 win over Ralston in six innings Tuesday night at Hannibal Park in Beatrice.
Bletscher had a three-run home run, a two-RBI double and a single. All of her RBI’s came early when the game was still in doubt, but the entire Lady O offense came alive late with six runs in the sixth inning, enforcing the run rule on senior night.
The win assured Beatrice the River Cities Conference regular season championship.
Ralston jumped on Beatrice for four runs in the first inning. After the leadoff hitter made an out, two walks and a single loaded the bases. Ralston came through with a two-RBI single and a third run scored making it 3-0. Two wild pitches led to the fourth run.
Beatrice answered immediately. Addison Barnard led off for the Lady O by blasting a solo home run over the left field fence.
Beatrice continued the rally when Josi Zimmerman reached on a single and Ashton Sandman walked. Bletscher then blasted a three-run home run to tie the game 4-4.
That’s what the score would remain until the Lady O tacked on two runs in the bottom of the third. Zimmerman reached on a single and Sandman reached on an error. After a sacrifice bunt by Alexis Schwartz moved the runners to second and third. Bletscher’s two-RBI double made it 6-4.
The Lady O added to that lead in the sixth inning. Schwartz reached on a single and pinch runner Whitney Schwisow stole second. A single by Bletscher put runners at first and third and a single by Aden loaded the bases.
Fielder’s RBI single made it 7-4 and an RBI fielder’s choice by Hannah Lytle made it 8-4 and an RBI single by Barnard extended the lead to 9-4. Arial Eggert kept the line moving with an RBI single to make it 10-4 and pinch hit senior Kelsey Markey then picked up an RBI single to make it 11-4.
Sandman then reached on an error, which allowed the final run to score.
