Kiln woman killed while crabbing after her boat broadsided
LAKESHORE, Miss. (AP) — Hancock County deputies say a woman was killed Saturday when her boat, checking crab traps, was broadsided by another boat.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/28Vx2Kt ) Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass said the two boats crashed about 10 a.m. near Bordages Brothers’ Marina in Bayou Caddy.
Bass says 20-year-old Vanessa Mauffray of Kiln, died. Victoria McKinley, a sister, says Mauffray and her boyfriend were aboard when they were hit. One of what Bass says were small recreational boats sank.
Mississippi Department of Marine Resources spokeswoman Melissa Scallan confirmed one of the boats was trapping crabs when it was struck. She says the department is investigating.
