TEEN: Molly Elizabeth Jenkins celebrates the second of her teen years as she turns 14 Sunday, Dec. 30. May it be a fun-filled day and many happy ones to follow.
GOSPEL: A New Year’s Eve gospel sing is from 7 p.m. to midnight Monday, Dec. 31, at Kellogg Church of God, 4403 Piedmont Road. Featured are Jay Humphries Trio, Waugh Family and Covered by Love. Free admission and free refreshments at intermission.
GRADS: Two Kentucky residents were among 1,653 students receiving diplomas for the 2017-18 academic year at Campbellsville University. Courtney Taylor Jones of Ashland and Margaret Ann Campbell of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, received master of social work degrees.
PARTY: Performances featuring Ronnie McDowell and Amber Hayes, country music artists, are offered during the Mayor’s Inaugural Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, in ballroom of Big Sandy Superstore Arena. A cash bar, dancing and champagne toast welcoming 2019 are also available. Co-hosts are Mike Kirtner and Johna Lowe, along with Steve Williams. Tickets are $55 and $110 couples, including appetizers and champagne for midnight toast. Proceeds benefit Facing Hunger Foodbank.
PINNED: Only three of 20 graduates of Ashland Community and Technical College’s practical nursing program were not from the Kentucky area — Tammie Johnson, South Point, Ohio; Ashton Robbins, Chesapeake, Ohio; and Allison Robertson, Fort Gay, West Virginia. Pinned from the Kentucky area during the ceremony in early December were Shane Burke, Bre Cole, Jessica Diamond, Elizabeth Heston and Brooke Loudenback, all of Ashland; Timothy Ellis and Makayla Laney, both of Catlettsburg; Shae Ferguson, Isonville; Ross James, Argillite; Shelby Laney, Sandy Hook; Bryttani Osborne, Beauty; Kristen Osborne, Louisa; Sara Smith and Brittany Worthington, both of Flatwoods; Kimberly Church, Barbara Cordle and Erica Parsons, all of whom are from Grayson.
BALL DROP: City of Ashland, City of Ashland Recreation Department and Ashland/Boyd County Tourism and Convention Bureau sponsor the free New Year’s Eve party and ball drop from 9 p.m. to midnight Monday, Dec. 31. Doors open at 8:45 p.m. Music is offered at First Baptist Church Christian Life Center, 1622 Winchester Ave., Ashland. Highlands Museum and Discovery Center also offers activities with children accompanied by adults. The ball drop begins at midnight at Judd Plaza. Gary Kesling provides karaoke, DJ and dancing. LADY: A dear lady observes a birthday Saturday, Dec. 29. Eleanor Nickell of Kenova, retired employee of Marshall Family Medicine and member of Kenova United Methodist Church, has been at the top of my favorites list since meeting her 13 years ago. May this Christian mother, grandmother and friend have a super, fun-filled day.
PASTOR: Greg Lunsford, pastor of Ona’s Beulah Ann Baptist Church, is being sent birthday greetings for his celebration Sunday, Dec. 30. May his day be filled with love, hope, laughter and fun.
97: On Dec. 19, Elsie Linville got a little closer to 100 in age. She turned 97 years young. Here’s hoping her celebration was grand with many more to follow.

CHUCKLE: On New Year’s Eve, Marilyn stood up in the local pub and said that it was time to get ready. At the stroke of midnight, she wanted every husband to be standing next to the one person who made his life worth living. It was kind of embarrassing as the clock struck, the bartender was almost crushed to death.
