REUNION: The 60th reunion for Wayne High School Class of 1958 begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Wayne United Methodist Church. A class picture is taken at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Call Richard Cornwell, 304-543-3996.

DEGREE: A Huntington resident recently received a nursing degree from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jeremy Kilgore earned his master of science in nursing.

GOLF: An inaugural golf scramble benefitting the A.D. Lewis Community Center begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Creekside Golf Course, Lavalette. The sot is $300 for teams of four and $100 to sponsor a hole. Registration deadline was Thursday, July 19. Lunch and refreshments are served. COMPLETED: A 2017 St. Joseph Central Catholic High School graduate recently completed a 2018 Capitol Hill summer internship with the office of U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va. Phoenix Huron studies politics and government, urban studies and economics at Ohio Wesleyan University and is a goalkeeper with Battling Bishops men’s soccer team, part of Athletes in Action and member of the university’s chapter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He recently represented the university at the Phi Gamma Delta Leadership Conference in Lexington, Kentucky.

CONDOLENCES: Although it was in May May 16, to be exact Judy Rowley answered her call to enter Heaven after a stay in St. Mary’s Medical Center, I offer my heartfelt sympathy in this great loss of a mother, grandmother, sister and friend. I worked with Judy many years at The Herald-Dispatch and couldn’t ask for more of a trustworthy, dedicated, respectful and wise friend and employee. As Isaiah 61:1,2) states, “God binds up the broken-hearted and comforts all who mourn.” The Woodlands Retirement Community resident will be missed by all knowing and loving her.

FUNDRAISER: Lawrence County Friends of DD hosts the seventh annual 5K for Developmental Disabilities Saturday, Sept. 8, at The Point, South Point, Ohio, Industrial Park. Sponsorships are available for $50, $100 and $150. Call 740-532-7401.

AWARDED: Michael Thompson of Barboursville was recently awarded the Fine Arts Education Scholarship and John C. Shaw Scholarship from the GSC Foundation of Glenville State College for the 2018-19 school year. The son of Roman and Andrea Thompson is majoring in music.

LISTED: Elizabeth Goetz of Huntington earned a spot on the University of Dayton’s spring 2018 dean’s list, which honors undergraduate students achieving a minimum 3.5 GPA for the semester. Congratulations Elizabeth on this accomplishment.

MUSIC: The Randys perform during the Summer Music Series from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Dairy Barn Arts Center, Athens, Ohio. The free series is sponsored by the Chaddock Group.

BOYS: Congratulations to Jodi and Josh Fromholt on the birth of a boy, Jonas Joseph, born July 10. This bundle of boy and brother to Lily weighed 6 pound 9 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. His grandparents are Bob and Carol Wilcox. Great-grandmother is Ava McMullen, all of Madison Avenue Christian Church. Sherry and Terry Houck also became grandparents- Mavrick Anthony Meckstroth arrived one month early weighing in at 6 pounds, 5 ounces.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAYS: Angela Koontz turns 53, Helen Sebastian, Cynthia Kirk, Dick Jimison, Brett Faulknier, Billie Bossler, Scott Fizer, Maycle Mason, Braydon Alan Adkins is one from the double digits at 9, Jacob Camp turns 27.

CHUCKLE: A teacher asked a student, “If you had 16 jelly beans and your friend asked you for 10, how many jelly beans would you have?” “Sixteen,” the student replied.
