Where will northwest Houston’s remaining top football recruits sign next week?

Instead of signing early, many student-athletes out of the northwest Houston area waited until after winter break to sign their National Letter of Intent to play football and other sports at the collegiate level on National Signing Day, Feb. 6, at special signing day events.

The regular Division I football signing period begins Feb. 6 and ends April 1. For Division II recruits, the signing period begins Feb. 6 and ends August 1.

The regular basketball signing period starts April 17 and closes May 15.

The initial signing date for all other Div. I and Div. II sports started last Nov. 14 and closes Aug. 1, 2019.

Plenty of sought-after NW Houston football athletes signed early ahead of National Signing Day, including Klein Collins four-star (according to 247Sports) running back Isaiah Spiller, who signed at Texas A&M, Langham Creek three-star dual-threat quarterback Chris Herron, who signed at Kansas State, Westfield three-star dual-threat quarterback Terrance Gipson, who signed at SMU, and Tomball three-star tight end Logan Compton, who signed at Baylor.

Also signing early were Langham Creek’s Corien Azema, Klein’s Harrison White and Coleby Hamm, Spring’s Clifton McDowell, Cy-Fair’s Graham Lakin, Tomball Memorial’s Christian Lovick, Cy Woods’ Brock Gunderson, Tomball’s Christian Mobley, Klein Oak’s Gerald Irons III, Jersey Village’s Patrick Paul and Raymond Richardson, Klein Collins’ Alex Brown and Kevric Wiggins, and Cy Falls’ TJ Goodwin.

Over 80 NW Houston athletes, in addition to football, have also signed during the early basketball and football signing periods.

The following is a partial list of football athletes from NW Houston who are committed and yet to sign or undecided:

Four-star cornerback Marcus Banks out of Dekaney committed to the University of Alabama (out of Texas A&M, Florida and Florida State) during the 2019 All-American Bowl, Jan. 5, after decommitting from LSU last October. In 2018, Banks had 36 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and also scored receiving touchdowns and returned kickoffs and punts.

Fellow Wildcat two-star wide receiver Joshua Cephus committed to UTSA in January and holds offers from Rice, Southern Miss, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Air Force. Lineman Ray Flowers committed to Trinity Valley Community College, running back Terell Ratcliff committed to Bethel College, and wide receiver/defensive back Maxwell Epps holds an offer from Texas A&M Commerce.

Three-star wide receiver Tyler Hudson out of Klein Oak was named to the 2018 first-team offense in District 15-6A and committed to Central Arkansas in January. Hudson also holds offers from Rice, Cornell, Texas Southern, Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Dartmouth and Yale.

Fellow Panther offensive lineman Kelvin Scott committed to Texas A&M Commerce in January and holds an offer from Mississippi Valley State, defensive end Chas Hill committed to Kilgore College and holds an offer from Texas A&M Kingsville, tackle Garrett Butler committed to Texas Wesleyan University in December, offensive lineman Jonathan Scalli holds an offer from Lehigh University, kicker/punter Seth Morgan holds an offer from Howard Payne University, and wide receiver and punter Alfredo Gutierrez holds an offer from Dordt University.

Cypress Ranch’s Jarred Jones was named the District 14-6A Defensive MVP and had 52 tackles, including 20 tackles for loss and six sacks in 2018. Jones holds offers from East Texas Baptist University, Midland University, Howard Payne University, Wayland Baptist University, Austin College, Hardin-Simmons University, Southwestern Assembly of God University, Grand View and Cisco College.

Fellow Mustang three-star safety Rance McInnis committed to Sam Houston State in January and also holds offers from Rice, Texas Southern, Cornell, Harvard, Dartmouth and Colombia. Three-star outside linebacker Gerard McKnight committed to UTSA last August and holds offers from SFA, Prairie View A&M, Houston Baptist, Texas State, New Mexico and Texas A&M Commerce, and wide receiver back Justin Carmouche committed to Trinity University. Lineman Marcos Gonzalez holds an offer from Hardin-Simmons University, defensive back Urijah Morrow holds offers from Southern Nazarene University and Incarnate Word, kicker Austin Rychlik holds offers from Howard Payne University, Sterling College and Southwestern University, fullback Tanner Boston holds offers from UTEP, Texas A&M Kingsville and Tulsa, linebacker Brett Wilson holds offers from Rose-Hulman Institute and East Texas Baptist University, and linebacker Chris Lane holds an offer from East Texas Baptist.

Tomball defensive back Kasen Handal was named District 8-5A Utility Player of the Year in 2018 and holds offers from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, East Texas Baptist University, Bethel College and Western New Mexico University. Teammate running back DaVeon Vean was named an 8-5A 2018 first team all-district running back, committed to Southern Arkansas University in January and also holds an offer from West Texas A&M University. Tackle Tyler Youngdale committed to Southern Arkansas University in January and holds offers from University of Northern Colorado, Texas A&M University Kingsville and Colorado School of Mines.

Three-star running back Rayshawn James out of Westfield, opened his recruitment back up after decommitting from Houston last September, and holds offers from Texas A&M Commerce, Texas A&M Kingsville and Kilgore Junior College. James was named the 2018 all-purpose player of the year and finished as a three-year starter with 26 touchdowns, just over 2100 rushing yards on 295 carries and over 3000 all-purpose yards.

Fellow Mustang Franklin Montgomery was the 2016 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and holds offers from Tuskegee University, Texas Permian Basin and East Texas Baptist University. Three-star offensive tackle Cedric Claiborne committed to UTSA in January and also holds offers from North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, McNeese State, South Alabama and Southern University. Two-star wide receiver Zion Andrus is undecided, holds an offer from SMU and was accepted into Angela State University. Two-star cornerback Jaylen Stanford is undecided and holds offers from Incarnate Word, Liberty, Army, Navy and Air Force. Cornerback Tre Coburn holds offers from Baylor and Louisiana-Monroe, and defensive back Ian Massey holds offers from Langston University, Trinity Valley, Kilgore College, Butte College, Fullerton College, Coffeyville Community College and a PWO from Bowling Green.

Cy-Fair offensive lineman Jalen McCullar holds offers from Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, East Texas Baptist and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Teammate running back Jaelon Woods holds offers from Air Force, Georgetown and Army, quarterback/tight end Ryan Nelub holds an offer from UT Permian Basin, offensive lineman CJ Ridout holds an offer from Hardin-Simmons University, linebacker Trevon Mosley holds an offer from West Texas A&M, fullback/running back Marcus McKinley holds an offer from Southern Arkansas, and wide receiver Christian Richmond holds offers from Robert Morris, SFA, Houston Baptist, Army and McNeese State.

Klein Collins offensive lineman Michael Alexander committed to UT Permian Basin in January, linebacker Ethan Frazier holds offers from East Texas Baptist and Grandview University, defensive back Kyler Williams holds offers from Grand View University, Wayland Baptist University, Bethel College and East Texas Baptist University, defensive back Rashad Truitt holds offers from East Texas Baptist University and Wayland Baptist University, offensive lineman Ronzell Raven holds offers from Langston University, Texas Wesleyan University and Grand View University, and defensive end Kylon Adams holds an offer from Arkansas Baptist College.

Tomball Memorial all-purpose back Jorden Gidrey was named to the 2018 first team all-district in 14-6A and committed to Air Force last November. Gidrey also holds offers from Army and Cornell.

Rosehill Christian offensive and defensive lineman Braeden Kobza holds an offer from Dakota State University and received a walk-on opportunity from Rice University, and teammate halfback and tight end Eliott Mercado holds an offer from Texas A&T.

Klein defensive back Omaric Battles committed to Southern Arkansas University and holds offers from Texas Southern, Cisco Junior College and Tyler Junior College. Teammate wide receiver James Preston holds offers from McPherson College and Grand View University, tight end Jackson Miller committed to SFA in January and holds an offer from Louisiana College, and defensive back Dahki Adams committed to Southern Arkansas University in January.

Spring linebacker Azavier Roane committed to West Texas A&M University in January. Fellow Lion tight end Marcus Senne also committed to West Texas in January, defensive back Treyvon Mays committed to Texas State in January for track and field, wide receiver Marques Pearson holds an offer from Angelo State University, defensive lineman Titus Howard Jr. holds offers from Midwestern State University and Oklahoma Baptist University, and offensive lineman Dylan Roy holds offers from Grand View University and Simpson college.

Cy Falls defensive back Mekhi Davis committed to Navarro College in January and holds an offer from Florida Atlantic. Teammate defensive back and athlete De’von Hayward committed to Trinity Valley Community College in January. Wide receiver and outside linebacker Jackson McGlashen holds offers from Benedictine College and Sterling College, wide receiver and defensive back Joshua Morris holds offers from Bethel College, Concordia Nebraska University, Sterling College and Benedictine College, wide receiver Jyrese Hanchett holds an offer from Grand View University, defensive back Aaron Durham holds an offer from Kilgore College, and offensive lineman Landon Leger holds an offer from Louisiana College.

Three-star wide receiver Noah Smith out of Cy Ridge is undecided and holds offers from SMU, Tulsa, Sam Houston State, Midwestern State and West Texas A&M. Teammate defensive end Zerrick Hawkins‏ holds offers from William Penn University, Sterling College, McPherson College and Bethel College, linebacker Michael Rich holds offers from Bethel College and Southwestern University, and linebacker Dias Redmond holds offers from West Texas A&M and Grand View University.

Cy Creek defensive back Arzeviur Richardson holds offers from Southwestern University and Whittier College, teammate offensive lineman Tony Lopez committed to Texas Wesleyan in January, and wide receiver Jaden Gray committed to West Texas A&M University in January and holds offers from McPherson College, Aurora University and Southwestern University.

Jersey Village linebacker and defensive back Keith Thomas holds offers from McPherson College and Austin College, and fellow Falcon wide receiver Jordan Jones holds offers from Tennessee State, Texas Southern and Army.

Langham Creek defensive tackle Ralph Carter holds offers from West Texas A&M University and Kilgore Junior College.

Cy Woods quarterback Carson Woods received a preferred walk on from the University of Utah in January.

Cy Springs defensive back Myles Mass accepted a preferred walk on from the University of Texas in January.

Cy Lakes linebacker Malik Green holds offers from Angelo State University, Grand View University, Culver-Stockton College and East Texas Baptist.
