Danbury Music Centre Strings participates in ‘Orchestras Feeding America’ Sunday
Danbury Music Centre Strings concludes its season Sunday, April 28, at Broadview Middle School, with a performance featuring music by Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Warlock and Bernstein, among others.
Led by Music Director Glen Lebetkin, at the Danbury Music Centre, Danbury Centre Strings provides an ensemble experience for string players. Members study standard string repertoire appropriate to their level of playing and develop playing technique, listening skills, orchestral technique and ensemble experience. Many of the DCS alumni go on to perform in the Danbury Community Orchestra and Danbury Symphony Orchestra.

The orchestra also will participate in “Orchestras Feeding America,” one of eight in Connecticut to do so. The League of American Orchestras first joined forces with Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, in 2009. More than 215 orchestras in all 50 states participated to collect and donate food to their local food assistance agency or food bank within Feeding America’s network of more than 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Since then, over 370 orchestras have participated in the annual effort.
Those attending the concert may bring non-perishable food items. Most needed is dry soup, rice, powdered/canned milk, macaroni & cheese, cereal, peanut butter, beans, canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, canned meats, stew, soup, pasta, fruit juices/sip-sized juices. The following will not be accepted: Items in glass jars or bottles, unlabeled or dented cans, any open or resealed packaging, perishable foods, homemade foods, expired products, clothing, diapers, or other non-food items.
