Author to present talk on Gen. John Pershing at Betty Strong Encounter Center
SIOUX CITY -- Author Rudolph Daniels will be presenting “The Deciding Difference: Pershing Brings Victory, November 1918,” at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Betty Strong Encounter Center, 900 Larsen Park Road.
Admission is free and a reception will follow.
Daniels’ illustrated program will focus on critical factors that ended World War I (1915-1918) and how General John J. Pershing’s leadership figured into securing peace.
Pershing’s army helped destroy German resistance in the October 1918 Meuse-Argonne offensive. This led to the agreement between the Allied Powers and Germany to end the war on Nov. 11, 1918.
Nov. 11 was designated “Armistice Day” in the United States. Congress renamed it Veterans Day in 1954.
Daniels is a retired assistant dean, department chair of railroad operations technology and instructor of railroad history at Western Iowa Tech Community College. He has written several books on railroad history.
