December 28, 2018

AUBURN, Maine (AP) — A Maine man who shot another man in the leg has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Sun-Journal reports 27-year-old Jordan Waterman, of Lewiston, was sentenced Thursday in Auburn to 12 years in prison with eight years suspended. Waterman pleaded guilty to elevated aggravated assault and a felony charge of tampering with a witness.

Prosecutors had filed a motion requesting to present statements a witness made to police before saying he had no recollection of the conversations. Authorities say the victim, 27-year-old Jeffrey Locklear, moved out of the state and couldn’t be located.

Police say Waterman and another man confronted Locklear on a Lewiston street. Authorities say Waterman shot Locklear when he ran away. Police say surveillance cameras captured the shooting.

Waterman’s attorney called the sentence “fair.”
