Avondale woman accused of trying to light boyfriend on fire
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — An Avondale woman is facing charges that she tried to set her boyfriend on fire because he wouldn’t celebrate her new job at a Subway restaurant.
Kathy Elizabeth Jones, 46, was arrested last week on one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage, according to charging documents obtained Wednesday.
Police responded to Jones’ apartment Dec. 11 and found matches and clothing with lighter fluid on them.
Jones’ boyfriend told officers that she had sprayed him with lighter fluid and then threw lit matches at him. He then locked her out of the apartment.
When questioned by police, Jones said that she had no recollection of the incident. She told officers she remembered being upset that the victim wasn’t interested in celebrating her new job. Jones also disclosed that she had consumed two Smirnoff Ice vodka drinks and two drinks with rum.
She was arrested and is being held on $15,000 bond.
It was not immediately known Wednesday whether Jones had an attorney who could comment on the allegations..
