President Trump said Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller’s ‘illegal witch hunt’ is to blame for his recent low poll numbers.

“Without the ILLEGAL Witch Hunt, my poll numbers, especially because of our historically ‘great’ economy, would be at 65%. Too bad! The greatest Hoax in American History,” the presidenttweeted.

Mr. Trump could be reacting to a Quinnipiac pollfinding his approval rating at only 38 percent, with 57 percent saying they had negative feelings about the president.

During his early morning tweetstorm, Mr. Trump posted supportive messages from many Republican lawmakers and also criticized Democrats for discussing impeachment and wanting a “do over” on Mr. Mueller’s report.

“Everything the Democrats are asking me for is based on an illegally started investigation that failed for them, especially when the Mueller Report came back with a NO COLLUSION finding. Now they say Impeach President Trump, even though he did nothin wrong, while they ‘fish,’ ” hewrote.

“After two years of an expensive and comprehensive Witch Hunt, the Democrats don’t like the result and they want a DO OVER. In other words, the Witch Hunt continues,” hetweeted. “The Democrats are getting ZERO work done in Congress. All they are focused on is trying to prove the Mueller Report wrong, the Witch Hunt!”

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,078 voters from May 16-20 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
