CHELSEA, Mass. (AP) — Fire officials say a 3-year-old boy was rescued and at least 50 people were displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment building in suburban Boston.

It happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Chelsea Deputy Fire Chief John Quatieri says the fire started in an apartment on the third floor and quickly spread.

Firefighters spent more than an hour containing the flames. Two were injured in the blaze.

Quatieri says a crew was able to rescue the toddler after hearing he was trapped in an apartment above the fire. The boy wasn’t harmed.

The Boston Globe reports the Red Cross helped residents of the 24 apartments. Between 50 and 100 people were displaced.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
